Cold!

It's freaking cold here today. I like winter ... snow I mean. But not Quetta-like winds at sub-zero temperatures, they freak me the hell out. I believe today's high is -4. Imagine that! Good thing it's not here to stay, the temperature goes above zero soon.

I cannot imagine how people in Canada survive, it's not natural, honestly.

Ditto!

@Nikki
I meant the desi people that move there. Of course it's ok for the people who grew up there.

@Aly
How could you hibernate for a good 3-4 months man? Welcome to the blog btw! :)

London was supposed to be normal (mildly cold). But this year has been extremely cold. Wonder why it had to happen this year!! Even I like the cold weather, but as soon as it dips below zero I yearn for summer :D

What are you doing in Canada? were you not in Karachi?

@Asma
Same here.

@SAWJ
Don't be absurd. Nobody migrates to Russia!

@Anas
I guess we're not used to the "extended" cold and yearn for pleasant days as soon as get sick of being bundled up all the time.

@Adnan
I was ... till July. Came to the US for Masters.

cool! What's your major?

Computer Science. Most likely I'll be working on something in Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or Databases

ehe. I know you are an IT student and If I am not wrong you used to get projects from RAC too :-)

AI sounds good but then AI itself has become a vague term. Things like Machine learning, Collective Intelligence etc are pretty hot these days.

Unknown said...

More of a Computer Science student than an IT student. As for AI, it's not vague, it's just an umbrella term for a lot of different subfields some of which you mentioned.

Coldest temperature in Antarctica ever reported is -89.4°C. And you were fretting about Canadians, think again. :)

i so hear ya.
I got stuck in Minnesota snow storm and being a Karachiite, I wanted to kill myself. The wind chill was killing. Hang in there bro, this too shall pass. To come back next winter :)

@Tazeen
heh, thanks! Although I did get sick last couple of days, but it was more due to the dryness inside the house due to constant heating (and me not being used to it), not to mention the huge differences between outdoor and indoor temperatures. It got to me real bad. Oh well, there's always pollen season to look forward to in March (means more sickness coming up)

I'm visiting family in Toronto and let me tell you, it's no joke! (I live in NY so not that much of a difference but you still feel it!) It all depends on how much walking you're doing, not that many people do and when they have to they're dressed warm enough, so it isn't that bad.

You might make good use of a humidifier, won't cost you much from one of the superstores and it'll make your house or room (depending on its size) less dry and more bearable!
Hope you get well soon.
All the best,
Tee

love the summers also...i would rather sweat than be dry and cold...

@Tee
Thanks for dropping by Tee. Yes, I'm seriously considering getting a humidifier for the remainder of the winter. I had to pay the doctor a visit, but feeling much better now thankfully.

@UTP
Winters have their own charm (as long as you don't get sick), then you start hating it. Summers remind me of Karachi and it's inextricably linked load-shedding problem. Not something you'd look forward to.
